- What
is the Monitor's Treeless Edition? The Treeless Edition is
an Adobe PDF file which preserves the exact look and layout of
the Monitor's print edition. To view the Treeless Edition, Adobe
Acrobat® Reader is required.
- When
is the edition available? The Treeless Edition is available
for download Sunday through Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time,
except for U.S. postal holidays.
- How
is the Treeless Edition delivered? Subscribers receive an e-mail notification each day advising them
that the issue is ready to download. Simply click the link in
the e-mail, and it will take you to the login page where you
enter your password to receive your issue. (If the link is not
live, you can copy it and paste it into your browser window.)
Or you may go directly to the login
page, enter your password, and download the edition. (To change
your e-mail address, or discontinue the e-mail notice, visit the Manage your account page.)
- What happens if I forget my password?? Each subscriber needs a username and password to download the Treeless Edition. If you forget your password, click our password reminder and we'll send you this information by e-mail. If you wish to change your username or password, please visit the Manage your account page to update your account information.
- How
will I be billed? Your
credit card is charged automatically each month at the rate of
$8. If your credit card account number or expiration date changes,
or if you wish to use a different credit card account, please
visit the Manage your account page to update your account information. Terms and conditions.
- How do I cancel my subscription? To cancel your subscription to the Monitor's Treeless Edition, please visit the Manage your account page. Your subscription will stop at the end of the current monthly
billing cycle. (Sorry, once the initial free trial period has ended, refunds are not available for the balance of your subscription.)
- How
do I reach customer service? You
may visit the Manage your account page or you may e-mail treelessservice@csmonitor.com. We will respond within 24 hours Monday - Friday. (We are sorry, but we do not have a customer service phone center at this time). When you are contacting us, please provide as much information as possible describing the type of problem you are experiencing. To help us in our research please include your address.
- How
can I get technical support? You may visit user
tips and support, or e-mail treelessservice@csmonitor.com. Please include any error messages you are experiencing, what kind of computer you have and how you to connect to the Internet (Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL or other, including version) so that we may better assist you. We will respond within 24 hours Monday - Friday.

- 64 MB of RAM and 24 MB of available hard-disk space
- Possible need for disabling of virus protection software
- DSL or cable connection or a 56K modem to minimize download time
- If my computer doesn't meet the system requirements, can I still use the site? Please try downloading our free demonstration copy first. If you are having trouble downloading the free copy try right-clicking (or click and hold if you are using a MAC) and selecting 'save target as'
- How can I transfer my subscription from the print edition to the Treeless Edition? If you wish to receive the Treeless Edition and no longer want the print edition, please write us to cancel your print subscription. You can do that by sending an email to treelessservice@csmonitor.com. We could then cancel your print subscription and issue any refund if appropriate. Any refund would be sent as a check and processed in 3-4 weeks from the date of cancellation. We are sorry but we can not transfer money between accounts.
Then you would need to sign up for the Treeless Edition by following the links to subscribe at http://csm.realtimepub.com.
- How long are back issues kept on the site and what happens when I go on vacation? There is no mechanism to place your subscription on hold. The past five issues are available on the site for downloading. Your monthly fee provides access to the site over time and not for a defined number of issues.
- Can I receive the .pdf file as an attachment in the daily email rather than as a link? Many systems cannot accept emails of this size so this option is not available. However if you would like us to consider adding this feature please email us at treelessservice@csmonitor.com
- Can I give the Treeless Edition as a gift? We are not set up to accept gift subscriptions at this time. However if you would like us to consider adding this feature please email us at treelessservice@csmonitor.com
- I am still experiencing difficulty downloading, what should I do?
- Try "right" clicking on the download file. This will give you a "save link as" option, then save to your computer for faster and easier navigation.
- Make sure virus protection is disabled.
- If you are receiving an error message please email us at treelessservice@csmonitor.com with as much information as possible including which platform you use to access the site, what kind of computer you are using, and the name of your email provider.
- How do I use the Table of Contents feature? The Table of Contents lists all of the stories that appear in each issue, sorted by department and including headlines and descriptions. When you click on a headline, you'll be directed to the page in the PDF file where that story appears. To return to the Table of Contents page, use the back arrow button (below) in the lower left corner of the Acrobat window. You also can use the icons to the right of each headline in the Table of Contents to e-mail an article to a friend, or print out an article in a printer-friendly format. (Note: This feature is available only when you're connected to the internet.)
